CASR Part 61

Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASR) Part 61 is the regulation governing the licensing of flight crew in Australia — the rules for who may hold a pilot licence, what ratings and endorsements are required for particular kinds of flying, and the competency standards a candidate must meet. It replaced the earlier CAR (Civil Aviation Regulations 1988) licensing framework.

Part 61 sets out the structure for licences such as the RPL (Recreational Pilot Licence), PPL (Private Pilot Licence), CPL (Commercial Pilot Licence), and ATPL (Air Transport Pilot Licence), along with the ratings (such as a multi-engine or instrument rating) and endorsements (such as a retractable undercarriage or tailwheel endorsement) that extend a licence's privileges.
