Each CPL theory subject exam costs between A$175.69 and A$203.39, according to CASA (checked 4 October 2026). The fee is charged per subject sitting, and CASA sets and changes it, so confirm the current amount with CASA before you book. The pass mark is 70% for most CPL subjects and 80% for Air Law (CLWA and CLWH). Time limits run from 1.25 hours for Human Factors to 2.5 hours for Performance and Loading, as set out in the Part 61 Manual of Standards.

How do I prepare for a CPL theory exam?

Sit a practice exam for the subject, read the report to see which MOS Schedule 3 units you missed, study those units, then retest. Repeat until you are consistently above the pass mark.
