About Aero Academic

Aero Academic is an independent study platform for CASA pilot and drone theory exams. How questions are written, checked and corrected, and where the sources come from.

What is Aero Academic?

Aero Academic is an independent study platform for CASA flight crew theory: RPL, PPL and CPL aeroplane and helicopter, and the Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) for drones. It gives you practice exams, a Study Hub with interactive animations, and a study plan mapped to the Part 61 and Part 101 Manual of Standards from your own results.

Is Aero Academic affiliated with CASA?

No. Aero Academic is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by CASA. The practice KDR it produces is a practice report. Official KDRs are issued by CASA after a formal exam.

Where do the questions come from?

Questions are original practice questions written from public Australian sources: CASR Part 61 and its Manual of Standards (Schedule 3), CASA guidance material, and Bureau of Meteorology products. Airservices publications such as the AIP, ERSA and charts are cited by section and explained in our own words, never copied. Each question maps to a MOS reference.

How is a question checked before students see it?

Every question must pass automated checks before a student sees it. New questions are released in batches, and only after a person has read a random sample of the batch (at least 50, or all of a smaller batch) and passed it. One failed question in the sample holds back the whole batch.

How do I report a mistake?

Use the flag button on any question in the exam, or email contact@aeroacademic.com.au. Corrections are made to the question and recorded in the question bank change log at https://www.aeroacademic.com.au/question-bank-updates.

Does Aero Academic use AI?

The "Explain Like My Flight Instructor" feature writes an explanation of a question with AI. It is in beta, it can be wrong, and each explanation shows its sources so you can check them. Report anything that does not match.

Who built it?

Aero Academic was built by a former student pilot who completed all seven CASA CPL theory subjects.

Which documents do I need alongside the practice exams?

Some questions name an aerodrome, a chart or a workbook. Airservices Australia owns the charts and ERSA, so Aero Academic does not host them; each question that needs one links to the publisher so you read the current edition.
